Sailfish Boats 236 CC: 2017 Boat Buyers Guide…

Today, few boats use wood anywhere in their hulls, and everybody touts foam-filled construction and stainless-steel fittings. The trick is putting all those components together in a top-notch, ergonomically designed hull. That is Seminole Marine’s specialty, and they exhibit it in every Sailfish boat they build.

No wonder safety and reputation are the first two of their top attributes. And safety isn’t a casual feature of a Sailfish boat. It comes from quality construction using certified marine designers who know how to make true-running fuel-efficient hulls with the kind of durability demanded among professional anglers.

There are two more attributes serious anglers noticed, and mentioned. First is the great fuel economy of the VDS hull. This variable-degree deadrise hull cleaves seas with a sharp stem, and spreads the impact evenly and smoothly along the crisp keel. At rest, the multideadrise hull surfaces distribute crew and gear weight evenly, giving every Sailfish boat exemplary stability.

In truth, there is a sixth attribute of the Sailfish that scored noticeably high among its peers, and that is ergonomics. The boat works well because creature comforts are convenient to use, and livewells are easy to access and don’t interfere with the fishing action. Moving around the boat when things get busy with fishing is a breeze thanks to careful attention paid to walkways, access to compartments, and handy storage for everything.

236 CC

All this comes together in Sailfish’s newly introduced 236 CC. Here, ergonomics play into hand, giving boaters more usable deck space than available in many 26-footers. It “feels” bigger than it is to fishermen, and it fishes beautifully. It’s an ideal boat for the Kingfish Tournament Trail, for sails or bottomfishing for snapper.

With serious fishermen at the helm of Sailfish management, it isn’t surprising we found little to criticize in the boat’s livewell placement, 25-gallon size or aeration. It is set in the transom, leaving more room to work in the cockpit than when the well is behind the leaning post.

Rod holders are plentiful, especially if you opt for the hardtop. Four more are at the back of the leaning post. For deepwater fishing, the helm is large enough to host two 12-inch navigation displays to give a big view of multiple sonar devices plus navigation.

The cockpit is hardcore fishable, but with the optional comfort package, it can be blinged out to soften the ride with thickly padded foldaway seats. Forward the casting deck can be fitted with sun pads for even more comfort. Cup and rod holders flank the forward seating.

To make sure the 236 CC met customer expectations for fuel efficiency, it was designed to run beautifully with single outboard power from 200 to 300 horsepower.

Quality, performance, safety and fishability are so well-integrated into the 236, the only thing you’ll notice on board is how much fun you can have at sea.
