Angling Artists: Tyson Weiss…

Tyson Weiss of Falmouth, Maine, was studying biology at the University of Southern Maine when the economy collapsed in 2008. But with work difficult to find in the recession, Weiss took the leap at turning his passions for fish and artwork into a full-time career.

Since that time, Fish in the Garden has grown from providing unique artwork to private homes and gardens, to decorating hospitals and, most recently, the new On The Water Store in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Currently working out of a 4,000 square-foot studio, Tyson creates ceramic and stainless-steel fish, including trout, salmon, bass, and koi, and arranges them in schools to give gardens and spaces a sense of flow, the way a school of fish changes shape to fit its environment.

With tails formed to the right and the left, Tyson’s fish curve with the setting, whether they are swimming along a wall or garden path.

When he’s not in the studio, Tyson is often on the water in Maine, spending about 100 days each season pursuing striped bass and bluefin tuna.
